There are many users who bombard us with questions like: ‘Is WALTR 2 different from AirDrop?’ or ‘What features does WALTR 2 have that AirDrop doesn’t?’. Well – it’s time we put an end to ’WALTR vs AirDrop’ dilemma!
FACT 1. WALTR Works on Mac and PC, AirDrop only on macOS
AirDrop works only on Mac computers and supports iPhone 5 & newer, iPad 4th generation & newer, iPad Air & newer, iPad Pro & and iPod touch models that run on iOS 7 and above. To check if your Mac supports AirDrop, head to Finder, select ‘Go’ from the menu and if you see AirDrop there, it means that your machine is compatible.
Meanwhile, WALTR 2 works on any Mac computer (macOS 10.9 or newer) and a PC (Windows 7 and newer). Any iOS device working with iOS 7 and above is supported. Besides that, WALTR is compatible with any Apple iPod Ever Created.
Therefore: WALTR 2 supports wider range of devices. But, it won’t be able to share files between 2 Macs or between 1 iOS devices, like AirDrop.
FACT 2. WALTR Converts Media on-the-fly, supports MKV, AVI & more
The most important is that WALTR helps convert & transfer files of virtually all media formats! Airdrop won’t be able to transfer MKV or AVI, for example. Below you will find the list of audio and video formats compatible with WALTR:
Video formats: MKV, AVI, MP4, MOV, MPEG, m2ts, 3GP, WMV, H264, H265.
Audio formats: MP3, FLAC, APE, ALAC, AAC, AIFF, WAV, WMA, OGG, OGA, WV, TTA, DFF, M4R Ringtones.
Ebooks: PDF & Epub
When it comes to AirDrop, it supports narrower amount of video formats: MP4,M4V, MOV and audio: MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC, M4A. But besides this, it also supports contacts, passwords, notes, mail attachments, voice memos, PDF & ePub files, etc.
FACT 3. WALTR 2 & AirDrop work via Wi-Fi
Secondly, WALTR supports WI-FI Connectivity, and AirDrop works via both Bluetooth and WI-FI. How to enable it? In WALTR Preferences, choose “Enable WI-FI Connectivity”. If your iPhone is connected to the same network as your computer, it will work!
FACT 4. With WALTR, all files go to the default folders (TV, Music, iBooks)
With WALTR, all your files land in proper folders. For example, Movies will be available in the TV.app. your music will end up in the Music.app and the books will go to iBooks. If you use AirDrop – your photos and videos will land in Camera roll (or Files.app) while music, ringtones will go to the Files app or your Google drive, which means you won’t be able to play them back natively.
Now you know! 🤓
So, you see? There are different purposes to use both WALTR and AirDrop.
The thing that makes these services a little bit similar is simplicity and convenient UI. Additionally, it doesn’t depend on the size of the file, so you can transfer files to your Apple device whatever big they are.
